I understand what you mean when you say it's hard not to sound like a generational snob or a scold when analyzing parenting styles and the emotional fragility of the younger generations. I have to remind myself what an emotional wreck I was in my teens and twenties so as to be more empathetic toward young people, and also be reminded to be merciful as God is merciful

Regarding styles of parenting: 60 years ago my mother was dealing with four boys who of course rough housed and got into various scrapes. Her inevitable first comment when one of us came in crying was, “are you bleeding?” She provided the emotional keel that let us grow and navigate our lives.
