The thought that keeps occurring to me about our upcoming November election is just how eminently avoidable it was. There is no scapegoat, no systemic rigging, no boogeyman under the bed that the American populace can blame for why it has ended up with the same inexplicable choice that bedeviled it four years ago. No. This is about us: our country, our electorate, our voters, our parties and processes and systems that (at least in theory) reflect our will. This time, we deserve it.
