Why Men Don't Read Women
Christian book trends are easy thinkpiece material, but there's more going on.
Well, why don’t they?
This question pops up quite a bit. You can dig into the research and testimonies yourself to get a better idea of the most prominent theories as to why. In Jen Michel’s piece (which looks like it has since been removed, hence why I linked to an archived version), she helpfully rules out a couple of theories:
-Because women don’t write serious books (definitely not true!)
-Because women writers have an impossibly high standard of pretty/funny/vulnerable to meet (she says this is true but doesn’t really explain Christian men not reading Christian books by women)
A few years ago, Tim Challies offered several answers. In terms of why Christian men don’t pick up nonfiction by women, Tim suggests that the main reason is that most of those books are clearly written for women:
